The Washington Post (November 29, 1961)

The Washington Post (November 29, 1961)
Artist: Herblock

While we're hanging around the 1960s, here's an interesting editorial cartoon from the brilliant Herblock (Herbert Block).

At the time of this cartoon, there was a big debate over the implementation of Medicare and seemingly firmly against it was the American Medical Association (AMA).

We know what side Herblock was on, as Scrooge is presented as a lobbyist for the AMA, and the portly gentlemen are representing Medicare.

Take a look:

Herb Block (1909-2001) was highly regarded in his field, winning four Pulitzer Prizes over his long career and this cartoon is very clever with terrific artwork.

As for the subject of the cartoon itself, the more things change, the more they stay the same!
