Bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol (1979)
Director: Friz Feleng
Scrooge: Yosemite Sam
It may seem odd, but that short film "Scrooge, or Marley's Ghost" from 1901 made me think of "bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol," another short film, but from 78 years later!
The main reason is that Bugs wears a white sheet similar to Marley's Ghost in the 1901 film. The main difference, of course, is that Marley is an actual ghost now and Bugs is a real live bunny!
What we have here is a fun cartoon short that was originally part of the TV special "Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales" in 1979.
Was that really 40 years ago?
It's great to hear the legendary Mel Blanc doing his usual stellar job with the voices. He was still in good form at that relatively late date.
And the director is the brilliant Friz Freleng, who was responsible for so many classic Warner Brothers cartoons. He knew how to get the best out of his cartoon stars.
I'm a huge fan of those vintage cartoons, so this is right up my alley.
The framing scenes make it clear that the members of the Looney Tunes gang are acting out the story for us, which I always think is a great idea, as it keeps the illusion that they're real personalities!
So, with a bunch of classic characters available, how did they do with the casting?
