A Christmas Carol (MGM Records) - 1947 - Part 1

A Christmas Carol (MGM Records) - 1947
Director: Dailey Paskman
Scrooge: Lionel Barrymore

We go from the 1939 radio broadcast featuring Lionel Barrymore as Scrooge to Mr. Barrymore's studio recording of "A Christmas Carol" for MGM Records in 1947.

It's fortunate that someone had the good idea to preserve this classic Scrooge on records, because back in 1947, they didn't have reruns of radio shows, so who knew if Lionel Barrymore's Scrooge would be able to be heard in future years?

MGM Records had been founded the year before with the main intention of releasing the soundtracks of their extremely popular musicals, but the idea of using one of their most beloved stars in one of his most popular roles in create an original album must have seemed like a reasonable stretch.

And Ronald Colman's record album of "A Christmas Carol" for Decca Records had been popular, so why not give it a go?

This MGM version seems to have been popular as well and stayed in print in 45 and LP and CD versions and pops up all over the Internet these days.

So, how How was it? Well, give a listen and we'll discuss...
