Blame Bransby!

Here's another humorous cartoon panel brining Scrooge into the modern world:

The Gramophone Company - "Bob Crackett Telling Of Scrooge" (1908) - Bransby Williams - Part 2

If you got a chance to listen to Bransby Williams's record "Bob Crackett Telling of Scrooge," I'm sure you think it's interesting!

I don't at all get the odd spelling of Bob Cratchit's last name on the label, but I think it lends even more odd charm to the proceedings!

Bransby doesn't really change his delivery much when portraying Bob rather than Scrooge, but it's interesting to hear the story from Bob's perspective.

It makes sense that Bob tells us what happened at the beginning and end, as he was there. And he fills in the gaps with what Scrooge would have told him over that Christmas bowl of smoking bishop!

And, of course, in keeping with the other Williams records, it's all explained as a dream!

A Strong Pitch!

Verizon gets in on the holiday shopping with this ad:

Some star power here, with SNL veteran Cecily Strong joined by award-winning actor Paul Giamatti as Scrooge!

I wonder who Scrooge would have in his contacts?

Black Friday!

Pre-redemption Scrooge's Christmas list would have been pretty short, so he must have shopped at CVS to get a receipt that long!

Not Really Him!

Also from the "I Don't Know Much About This One" file...

It's some sort of pamphlet, as there's a back as well:

But I don't know what was inside...

And I don't know when it's from...

But I do know that (despite the "A Christmas Carol" designation) it's not really Scrooge...

Fun, though!

"The Dicken's Christmas Carol" (1962) - Joe Basham - Icon Records

"The Dicken's Christmas Carol" (1962)
Joe Basham
Icon Records

Here's an oddity from 1962, odd punctuation and all:

It's odd, but I love finding obscure little nuggets like this!

I have no idea who Joe Basham was and can't find any info on him. I will says he tries his best to sell it, though!

The song reminds me of some other song that I can't quite put my finger on (I think it's mainly the "Ding! Dong!" part), but the songwriter is Bob Coulter and I don't think I've seen/heard that name before.

The flipside was also written by Bob Coulter and it's also a bit odd:

I keep throwing around the word "odd" here, but what perhaps strike me as oddest is that this is from 1962, per "Billboard" (Note that Icon Records is so obscure that "Billboard" gets their name wrong!):

So, who was this aimed at?

In 1962, it was generally kids that bought 45s and adults that bought LPs, and I don't think this would appeal to either.

If I were a teenager in 1962, I would much prefer this record, also listed as a new release in that same "Billboard" issue:

So Not Sure!

From the "I Don't Know Much About This One" department, here's an interesting illustration with an emphasis on the "Ghost Story":

Also not sure* if it's an actual book cover or just a print!

*not sure bring a euphemism for no clue !

Another!

Here's another animation drawing featuring Scrooge and Tiny Tim, this one from 1983's "Mickey's Christmas Carol":

Pretty cool!
